Brooklyn Navy Yard
Perry Avenue Building Wind Turbine Array
In collaboration with TDX Construction, Kanta Electric delivered advanced alternative energy power systems for the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The project integrated high-voltage power infrastructure with renewable energy technologies, including power-generating windmills and a new solar energy system. Additional scope included comprehensive electrical work and fire alarm systems, supporting a resilient, future-ready energy framework. Executed as part of a new construction effort, the project reflects a commitment to sustainable design and innovative power solutions within a major industrial campus.
Understanding the Site and Challenges
Kanta Electric performed major electrical infrastructure and renewable-energy installation services for the Perry Avenue Building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, supporting one of New York City’s earliest and most recognized sustainable industrial redevelopment projects.
The project included installation of New York City’s first rooftop-mounted wind turbine array system, together with the associated supporting electrical infrastructure required for integration into the facility’s overall power distribution network. The development became an early example of renewable-energy integration within New York City’s urban industrial environment and helped position the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a leader in sustainable redevelopment, clean-energy initiatives, and advanced manufacturing.
Kanta’s scope included installation of high-voltage electrical distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, panelboards, underground electrical infrastructure, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, grounding systems, telecommunications pathways, conduit and wiring systems, cable tray infrastructure, and multi-floor power distribution serving the facility’s industrial and commercial operations.
Pioneering the Growing Field of Green Design
Executed within an active urban industrial environment, the project required extensive coordination across multiple building systems and trades, phased infrastructure installation, and integration of critical power distribution systems designed to support long-term operational reliability and future operational flexibility.
The project represented a notable milestone in New York City’s early urban renewable-energy initiatives and received public recognition during its inauguration by New York City leadership.
This project highlights Kanta Electric’s experience delivering complex renewable-energy and electrical infrastructure solutions across large-scale industrial redevelopment and sustainability-focused projects throughout New York City..
